Ph.D., Senior researcher
Expert in a diversity of different ecological groups of algae, nomenclature of algae, their taxonomy, ecology, and geography. She studies communities of phytoplankton and phytobenthos in different water bodies (springs, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, estuaries).
Olena is a postdoc at the Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU, Austria) and still combines her duties as a Senior researcher at the Institute of Hydrobiology in Kyiv, Ukraine. She studies the diversity of algae to understand how the connectivity of water bodies affects their metacommunities.
From 2012 to 2014, Olena worked as a leading engineer at the Department of Physiology and Ecology of Aquatic Plants, Institute of Hydrobiology of NAS of Ukraine. In 2014, she became a junior researcher in the same department, and 2016, a researcher.
In the same year, Olena again took the researcher position, but this time at the Department of Water Plants Ecology and Toxicology, Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine. In 2019, the scientist was appointed Acting Senior Researcher at the Department of Aquatic Plant Ecology and Toxicology, Institute of Hydrobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and in 2021 - Acting Senior Researcher at the Department of Sanitary Hydrobiology and Hydroparasitology, Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine.
From 2021 to now, Olena has been a Senior researcher at the Department of Sanitary Hydrobiology and Hydroparasitology, Institute of Hydrobiology of the NAS of Ukraine. From June 2022 she received financial support from the Austrian Academy of Sciences and The Christian Doppler Research Association. Now she is involved in a few projects at the Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU, Austria).
She is also a member of the Hydroecological Society of Ukraine and the editorial board of the following journals: Transylvanian Review of Systematic and Ecological Research (The Journal of "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, Romania).
