Description of the field of scientific research:

Yakiv is engaged in the classification of Ukrainian vegetation and biotopes, geobotanical mapping and zoning, phytoindication (development of ecological scales), vegetation dynamics, assessment of the impact of climate change on the plant world and damage caused by military operations, and protection of the plant world.

List of duties:

Yakiv is the head of the Department of Geobotany and Ecology at the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, NAS of Ukraine, and a specialist in phytocoenology, geobotany, floristics, plant ecology, and flora protection.

Professional experience:

From 1976 to 1979, Yakiv worked as a junior researcher at the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, NAS of Ukraine. From 1979 to 1986, he held the position of senior researcher and, from 1986 to 1988, leading researcher at the same institute.

In 1988, Yakov became the head of the M.G. Kholodny Institute of botany department, NAS of Ukraine, and later the deputy director. He was appointed director in 2004.

In addition, Yakiv is a member of the Academic Council of the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany, NAS of Ukraine, Head of the Specialized Academic Councils for the Defense of Dissertations for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialties of botany and mycology, and a member of the Scientific Council on Botany and Mycology at the Department of General Biology of the NAS of Ukraine.

In 1987, he became a member of the International Association for Vegetation Science, in 1998, Planta Europa, in 2004, MAB UNESCO, and in 2006, Vice President of the Ukrainian Botanical Society.
