Role: Author
Ph.D., professor
Ihor researches the mechanics of material fracture and structural integrity, hydrogen embrittlement and localized material failure in hydrogen-containing environments, corrosion fatigue and corrosion cracking of engineering materials and structures. He also studies methods and equipment for testing materials in aggressive environments, reliability and safety of critical structures under long-term exposure to aggressive operating conditions.
Ihor's area of interest is the development of methods for assessing and establishing the mechanisms of influence of aggressive environments, primarily hydrogen-containing ones, on the fracture resistance and strength of structural metals and alloys.
Ihor has been working at the Karpenko Institute of Physics and Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine since 1976. Since 1999, he has held the position of Head of the Department of Strength of Materials and Structures in Hydrogen-Bearing Media of the Karpenko Institute of Physics and Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
