Description of the field of scientific research:

Study of groundwater contamination sites as a result of military operations and industrial activities, with a focus on oil pollution; remediation of military and man-made pollution sites; assessment of damage caused by Russian aggression as a result of pollution and disturbance of the geological environment, ecosystem approach and ecosystem services, ecosystem restoration.

List of duties:

Scientific Secretary at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is responsible for coordinating research at the Institute. Her personal research interests include groundwater studies, the environmental consequences of Russian aggression for Ukraine's recovery and holding Russia accountable, and the challenges of Ukraine's European integration.

Professional experience:

Since 2016, Ruslan has been an academic secretary at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

From 2006 to 2016, he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and as a junior researcher there. Since 2005, he has also been the head of the Laboratory of Petrochemical Research of the Geological Environment of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

From 2015 to 2021, he was the scientific secretary of the specialized academic council to defend dissertations for the candidate/doctor of geological sciences degree. 2012-2016 — Volunteered as an expert at the National Ecological Center of Ukraine.

Since 2015, he has also been an advisor to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on Environment and Natural Resources. In 2016-2017, he was the head of the Kyiv branch of the National Ecological Center of Ukraine, "Wind of Change." Since 2017, he has been the scientific secretary of the Ecology section of the Committee of State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.

In addition, since 2017, Ruslan has been a member of the Board of the National Ecological Center of Ukraine, Chairman of the National Ecological Center of Ukraine, member of Working Group 3 "Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security" of the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, and a member of the editorial board of the environmental magazine "Living Ukraine".

From 2018 to 2020, he was also a member of the Commission on the Sustainable Use and Protection of the Dniester River Basin, from 2019 to 2022 — Coordinator of Working Group 3 "Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security" of the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, and from 2020 to 2022 — Coordinator of Working Group 3 "Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security" of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum.

Also, since 2020 Ruslan has been a member of the Steering Committee of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, since 2022 — a National Coordinator of the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, a member of the Environmental Security Working Group of the National Council for the Restoration of Ukraine and member of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine's working group on assessing the damage caused by Russian military aggression to the environment of Ukraine, sub-direction: "Subsoil, including groundwater."

Since 2023, Ruslan has also been a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Chairman of the Environmental Control and Environmental Impact Assessment and Strategic Environmental Assessment Section, and a member of the International Council of Experts on Crimes Committed in Armed Conflict at the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

And since 2025, he has been Deputy Director of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
