Researches the evolution, anatomy, ecology, paleontology of marine mammals, marine conservation.

Professional experience:

From 2003 to 2014, Pavel worked at V.I. Vernadsky Taurida National University. Since 2008, he has been the National Representative of the European Whaling Society in Ukraine. From 2014 to 2015, he was a researcher at the Natural History Museum of South Jutland.

Since 2016, Pavel has been a leading researcher at the Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The same year, he began working at the Ukrainian Scientific Center for Marine Ecology. Also, he became a member of the working group for the implementation of the Marine Strategy (MSFD) in Ukraine at the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the secretary of the Scientific Advisory Council for the Protection of Marine Mammals at the Ministry of Ecology and natural resources of Ukraine.

In 2018, he became the editor of the Sixth National Report of Ukraine on implementing the Convention on the Protection of Biological Diversity (CBD).

Since 2019, he has been a member of the expert group for evaluating the effectiveness of scientific institutions in natural sciences under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

In 2021, he became an expert of the IUCN Commission on Species Survival and in 2022 – of the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine.

Since 2023, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the ACCOBAMS Agreement.
