Leonid investigates bird systematics, Cenozoic birds, and the natural history of terrestrial ecosystems in Eastern Europe. He explores the impact of climate change on fauna, bird hunting in different historical epochs, the economic role of poultry farming in different historical periods, and the use of birds in rituals.
Leonid researches bird remains from archaeological and paleontological sites in Eastern Europe to study the natural history of avifauna in Eastern Europe, birds as indicators of environmental change, and the relationship between humans and birds in different historical eras.
Leonid began his scientific journey as a graduate student at the Department of Zoology, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, from 2005 to 2008. From 2008 to 2013, he worked as an engineer at the Laboratory of Ecology and Zoology of the same university. From 2013 to 2019, Leonid held the assistant position at the Department of Ecology and Zoology, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Since 2019, he has worked as a leading research fellow at the Paleontological Department of the National Museum of Natural History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Additionally, since 2013 and up to the present day, Leonid has been involved in the expert commission for developing tasks for external independent testing in Biology. Since 2019, he has also been serving on the editorial board of the publication GEO & BIO.
Moreover, from 2010 to 2022, Leonid participated in the work of the expert commission for granting approvals to educational literature for general secondary education.
