Sergei studies the physics of the condensed state, the theory of low-dimensional Dirac materials such as graphene, as well as the theory of superconductivity: thermoelectric and thermomagnetic phenomena in Dirac materials, namely the Seebeck and Nernst-Ettingshausen effects.

Sergei is the head of the laboratory of strongly correlated low-dimensional systems at the Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He also teaches at the Department of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics of Kyiv Academic University. He is engaged in scientific research and teaches such courses "Physics of graphene and Dirac materials"  and "Electronic systems in a magnetic field." Is engaged in the popularization of scientific research.

Since 2018, he is a teacher at the Department of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics of Kyiv Academic University.
Serhiy is also a member of the Coordination Council of the Ukrainian Physical Society since 2016, and a member of the EuroGRAPHENE (EUROCORES Programme) Review Panel, the European Science Foundation (ESF) from 2009 to 2013.
Serhiy, among others, is an associate editor of the journal Condensed Matter Physics, Lviv. He reviews scientific articles in his field for international journals.
