Description of the field of scientific research:

Leonid studies bird systematics, Cenozoic birds, and the natural history of terrestrial ecosystems in Eastern Europe. Thus, he investigates the impact of climate change on fauna, bird hunting in different historical epochs, the economic role of poultry farming in different historical periods, and the use of birds in rituals.

List of duties:

Oleksii teaches courses on the history of Ukraine in the early modern period, social history, and particular historical disciplines (paleography, diplomacy).

Professional experience:

From 2001 to 2003, Oleksii worked as the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 2005, he was appointed Academic Secretary of the Specialized Academic Council at the same university, and from 2007 to 2008, he worked as Head of the Department of Ancient and Modern History of Ukraine.

2016 Oleksii headed the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the Faculty of History. Since 2021 he has been the guarantor of the History of Ukraine program at the Faculty of History of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Since 2021, Oleksii has also been a member of the board of the Ukrainian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (USECS) and, since 2020, a member of the Balkan Historical Association (BHA).

In addition, he was a member of the editorial board of the "Scientific Bulletin" from 2001 to 2008, the famous historical and philological journal "Kyivska Staryna" from 2002 to 2014, and the academic journal "Eastern European History Review" since 2020.

Since 2022, Oleksii has also been a working group member on updating the history curriculum for secondary schools of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He has also acted as a reviewer for McGill-Queen's University Press, Academic Studies Press, and the journals "Pages of History" and "Text and Image."
