Gennadiy Sotnikov

D.Sc., professor

Languages for professional communication:

Ukrainian, English

Description of the field of scientific research:

Gennadiy works on experimental and theoretical studies of new accelerator concepts based on plasma and dielectric structures, and new plasma and radiation technologies.

List of duties:

Gennadiy is the Head of the department at the National Science Centre "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology".

Professional experience:

From 1978 to 1979, Gennadiy worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the National Research Center "Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology", where he studied the excitation of regular and chaotic oscillations in plasma.

From 1979 to 1984, Gennadiy worked as a junior researcher at KIPT, where he was engaged in theoretical studies of the generation of high-frequency high-power oscillations by relativistic electron beams in plasma-filled decelerating structures, as well as in the study of gas discharge in various high-power electronics devices.

From 1984 to 1989, Gennadiy worked as a researcher at KIPT, researching plasma physics and electronics.

From 1998 to 2017, Gennadiy worked as a laboratory manager at KIPT. His main work areas were theoretical studies of new accelerator concepts using plasma or dielectric structures as decelerating media.

From 2018 to the present, Gennadiy has been the head of the department at KIPT. He is engaged in experimental and theoretical studies of new accelerator concepts based on plasma and dielectric structures.

In addition to his main work, Gennadiy also participated in the review of scientific articles in various journals and performed expert evaluations of scientific work.

Scientific projects:

  • Development of high-gradient accelerators of charged particles based on the excitation of intense electromagnetic fields in plasma and dielectric structures by high-current electron clots or a powerful laser pulse

The aim of the project is the theoretical and experimental development of accelerators of subrelativistic and relativistic electron and positron clots with a high acceleration gradient, based on the excitation of electromagnetic fields with high amplitude in dielectric structures or plasma by electron clots with a large charge and high-power laser pulses instead of using traditional ultra-high-frequency generators (klystrons), as well as studying the dynamics of the main parameters of accelerating clusters (mean kinetic energy, root mean square spread in kinetic energy, root mean square transverse size, and normalized transverse emittance).
