Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts
Founded in 1917, Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts is a world-renowned center of music and stage education, a member of the European University Association, the European Association of Conservatoires, the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) and the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY).
The University's graduates account for up to 90% of the staff of artistic, educational, and cultural institutions in the Kharkiv region and represent the powerful traditions of Ukrainian art schools worldwide.
Today, the activities of Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts are primarily aimed at supporting each member of the large university family in the challenging conditions of martial law, maintaining the contingent of students and faculty, finding and implementing practical algorithms for organizing the educational process, volunteering, educational and art therapy activities.
In April 2022, teachers and students of Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts were among the first to work for the revival of artistic life in the city, starting performances for Kharkiv residents in the Kharkiv subway on April 1, the "University Philharmonic" solemnly began its work in the great hall, and on June 26, 2023, the performance of "Natalka Poltavka" by the opera studio of the Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts was successfully held on the stage of the theater and concert center.
This is only a tiny part of the large-scale concert work, which involves, without exaggeration, all members of the University staff, thanks to which the art of Ukraine is represented at the highest professional level in many countries of the world: Poland, Germany, the USA, Portugal, Finland, Spain, Italy, China, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, and France.
In early March 2022, missile strikes on the central part of Kharkiv severely damaged the academic buildings of Kharkiv I. P. Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts, located at 11/13 Constitution Square:
— One hundred fifty-eight windows were smashed by shock and blast.
— The roof was damaged.
— The heating system was completely destroyed.
— Numerous critical deformations of building structures were caused.
The results of the inspection of the University's buildings, which are architectural monuments, conducted in June 2023, indicate the need to urgently organize comprehensive emergency and restoration measures to maintain the regulatory conditions for the regular operation of the academic buildings.
