M.M. Hryshko National Botanical Garden
A collection of tropical and subtropical plants of the Hryshko National Botanical Garden (Kyiv) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 01.04.1999 No. 527.
Certificate by the Ministry of Education and Science No. 49, AN series, on inclusion of the “Collection of tropical and subtropical plants of the Hryshko National Botanical Garden (Kyiv) to the State Register of Science Objects Constituting National Heritage). The collection of tropical and subtropical plants includes 3956 taxa (species, varieties, cultivars) of plants belonging to 5 divisions, 141 families and 843 genera (according to the APG IV system (2016)).
The scientific significance of the collection lies in the fact that there are no collections of tropical and subtropical plants similar in taxonomic composition today in Ukraine. In particular, the collections of tropical orchids, aroids, varieties of Indian rhododendron and Japanese camellia, bulbous and short-rooted geophytes, fruit plants are absent in other botanical gardens of Ukraine and thus unique. The vast majority of samples were collected in the places of natural growth of these species, which opens up special opportunities for protecting the biodiversity of the gene pool of tropical flora ex situ.
