Professional League of Trauma Therapists

Basic information:

The Professional League of Trauma Therapists was founded in 2019 as a community of trauma therapists and researchers representing different fields of psychology. Its mission is to advance trauma therapy and crisis psychology by supporting the professional development of specialists, strengthening psychological literacy among the general public, raising awareness of when and how to seek psychological support, developing educational programmes, and conducting research that contributes to the evidence base in trauma therapy.

As of 2026, the organisation’s portfolio includes a range of online training activities for psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, and volunteers across Ukraine. Participants have received specialised training in areas such as Psychological First Aid and Crisis Intervention, work with vulnerable groups, and support for people affected by war. The League cooperates with civil society organisations, including NGOs and charitable foundations, and involves volunteers and staff of institutions that provide direct support to affected populations. Regular professional support groups and supervision sessions for practitioners are also an important part of its work.

Members of the League also contribute to academic publishing as authors and peer reviewers in scientific journals.

Main projects of the company:

In 2025, the League organised the scientific and practical seminar War and Trauma: International Experience, Ukrainian Approaches and Practices. One of the outcomes of the seminar was the launch of a project to develop and validate a trauma-treatment protocol designed for conditions of prolonged traumatic exposure.

Which collaboration would be the most interesting/priority?

The League is currently planning cooperation with the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS), as well as with other European and American professional associations.

Among its priorities are attracting investment into research, developing and implementing evidence-based and effective methods of support in the fields of mental health and rehabilitation, and strengthening the professional development of specialists working in these areas.

A particularly important priority is the international promotion of approaches developed by Ukrainian professionals and support for randomised studies evaluating the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic interventions under conditions of prolonged trauma.
