The main goal of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society is to unite the efforts of scientists, specialists, teachers, students, and schoolchildren working or studying in the field of nuclear energy, nuclear research, and related fields to disseminate scientific knowledge, combine intellectual and production forces, comprehensively address urgent tasks of developing nuclear science, engineering, and technologies based on the use of nuclear energy, form an objective public opinion and public confidence in the nuclear industry, and protect the rights and freedoms of its members.

Main projects of the company:

The Atomic Innovators competition for scientific projects in the field of nuclear science, nuclear energy, and industry was launched in 2023 by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society (NGO UkrNS) with the participation of the Council of Young Scientists at the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Council of Young Scientists at the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The competition is aimed at increasing the motivation of young scientists, students, postgraduates, and specialists of nuclear industry enterprises to create innovative solutions, developments, and approaches that will contribute to the development of atomic energy in Ukraine, improve the efficiency of production processes, safe operation of nuclear facilities, and will have an impact on the development of atomic science and technology.

The Ukrainian Nuclear Society regularly prepares the Analytical Report "Impact of the Nuclear Industry on the Development of Ukraine." As part of the report, UkrNS conducts a comprehensive assessment of the activities of nuclear energy and industry enterprises and their overall contribution to Ukraine's economy, social sphere, and environment. The study is conducted using the Nuclear Employment Estimation and Total Value methodologies, which, with the help of multipliers and coefficients, allow for analyzing the leading financial indicators of the industry, taking into account the entire supply chain, contractors, and local communities.

"Interesting about Nuclear Science" project. The project envisaged preparing popular science materials about research and development in the nuclear industry in a journalistic format aimed at a wide range of readers.

Which collaboration would be the most interesting/priority?

The priority areas are cooperation with scientific institutions and organizations of the EU and the USA to exchange experience and involve Ukrainian scientists and specialists in international grant projects and programs on relevant topics of research in the field of nuclear energy, namely

— materials for nuclear energy;

— improving the safety and efficiency of NPP operation;

— lifetime extension of power units and management of NPP equipment ageing;

— nuclear, radiation and environmental safety in radioactive waste and spent fuel management;

— problems of thermonuclear fusion.
